[Position] 

Located on the upper abdomen of the human body, 4 cun above the umbilicus.

[Efficacy and Indications] 

RN 12 has the functions of expelling retained food and promoting digestion, regulating the middle energizer and reinforcing the center. It is one of the main acupoints for self-massage. It is indicated for gastrointestinal diseases with symptoms such as abdominal distension and pain caused by stagnant food.

[Massage method]

Press and knead RN 12. In a supine or sitting position, press RN 12 100 times with the right index and middle fingers. The level of force should be moderate, causing a sore feeling only. Then use the index finger and middle finger to push and slide straight down from Tiantu (RN 22) (Central sternal fossa) to RN 12, repeating 100 times. The above actions can expel retained food, promote digestion, and smooth qi activity.

Rotate and knead RN 12. In a supine or sitting position, place the left palm on RN 12 and rotate the wrist joint so that the thenar eminence, the end of palm, hypothenar, little finger, index finger and radial front of the thumb can be pressed in the middle in that order. Then do the clockwise or counterclockwise movements with a circulatory movement. Repeat the above actions for 1 minute; this can regulate qi and blood, and harmonize the stomach and intestines.
